Cause I’m gonna make this place your home.
History: Sidney was born for greatness, he was born to change the way the world looked at his family name and the world itself. It was what his father had always told him growing up. As the eldest son of a gentleman in the court of Francis Seymour, Duke of Somerset His life was privileged and prearranged for him. Though the Bainbridge line has never held a title in the peerage for many generations they have served closely with the Dukes and Earls of the area. Now for the past six generations they had been partners in a trading company with the Howard family in a most prosperous way.
What was not told to Sidney was that his father had lead a string of poor choices over the years that had brought the trading company to the brink of financial collapse. This coupled with the birth of Sindey's younger brothers, twins at that a year after Sidney was born adding additional strain on the family. Their luck would continue to deteriorate when Duke Francis Seymour was shot and killed in front of Sidney and his father by Horatio Botti, a Genoese gentleman when Sidney was only five.
Though it was quickly decided that Horatio had killed Francis because his wife had insulted him While they were away in Italy, truth be told it was due to the fact that Horatio, like Charles Seymour Successor to the Francis was a Templar supporter. With the limited number of Templar'sand Templar supporters in England all means were needed to strengthen their cause. Sidney and his father of course were none the wiser to Charles' involvement or the Templar's existence at all. It would still be many years tell the world beneath the surface was truly reviled to Sidney himself.
In 1684 When Sidney was eleven years old would mark the first time he would leave England, as well as Somerset. He and his father wold accompany Charles to Regensburg of the Holy Roman Empire. It was this trip that would shape Sidney's life here forward. Sidney spent the whole trip in the tutelage of Charles learning all he could of the nobles courts and everything that came with it. He had found what greatness he had always been destine for. The years that followed would be spent at his fathers or Charles' side as they spent time in distant courts around Europe. As Charles and Sidney grew closer Charles arranged with Sidney's father for Sidney to be married to Annabelle Corwin daughter and only child of the baronet of Taunton who was eleven years his junior.
Just like so many trips before Sidney and his father were way in France as his father worked to negotiate a trade contract. Sadly before the contract could be worked out Sidney's father fell ill and died in a mere two weeks. Word of his illness reached him five weeks before the now sixteen year old Sidney made it back home. Sidney return was greeted with the squabbling of his brothers over who would lead the family going forward. The fight between Sidney's brothers had already turned violent as the two fought for control of the family. With Sidney's return from France the struggle only turned worse as Sidney was greeted with an attempt on his life.
For the next six months Sidney would spend his time trying to bridge the gap between him and his brothers to bring the family back together to no avail. As time passed the two brothers banded together against Sidney. Despite their efforts Sidney still had the backing of Charles to help him regain control of his family's situation. With Charles being a Templar supporter came the ever watchful eye of the Assassins. Though Sidney had been locked in a struggle with his brothers for control of the family estate he had managed to start reshaping the family business bringing its hemorrhaging accounts to a slow trickling loss. If he could get his brothers to fall in line there was a chance he could rebuild the family name and business.
The assassins had a different plan for Sidney, and while he was away in Bristol in 1690 they made their move, approaching Sidney with the hopes of drawing him in to the assassins. With his close relationship to a Templar and his status as an gentleman he could prove a valuable asset to them. Though their plan would lead him down a long road that would put his family on hard times they also promised to help him rebuild his family after. More importantly the revelation that he could change the future of England, the world and the very course of history. What Sidney would have to do now is walk away from the family business and his efforts to bring his family back together.
For then next two years Sidney would spend his time way from the family land, and England itself. Those two years would be spent in the dutch city of Vlaardingen in a training program that differed greatly from that of most assassins. Sidney had been raised a gentleman, a man of privilege. As such his training would reflect the same. For two years he was train with focus not only on his place as an assassin but also as a gentleman. He was pushed to the limits, pushed to go above and beyond what was normally expected and he did not disappoint.
By the time his training had completed in 1692 and Sidney returned to Taunton His brother William was dead and Walter was no where to be found. Walter had seen the state of the family business and just walked away resigning himself to drinking and wasting away the last bit of money the family had. The Assassins had made sure the financial status of the family had fallen to a point that they were indebted and Sidney's return would quickly be followed by him being put in a debtors prison withing a month.
It was all as planned, Sidney was hauled off to the prison and with the help of a supporter he was conveniently placed in a cell near one Henry Weller. A man known by the Assassins to have the right ties to bring a man of interest to the Templar's. Sidney would four months in the cell next to the man, slowly getting to know him earning his trust. Then when the timing was right he would reveal one little item to the man. The totem that the Assassins had given him. Step by step the plan unfolded exactly as they had hoped. Henry's interest in the totem was little at first but as the days went on he asked more and more questions about it, and as planned Sidney claimed it to be a family possession. Eventually Henry offered a to get Sidney in contact with a man from the Royal Navy that might be able to him out of the prison and a fresh start. A few months later and just before Sidney's 20th birthday He was visited by a Navel Captain by the name of Jeremiah Welch. Jeremiah would visit Sidney seven time over the coming three weeks finally leading to Sidney's release from the prison in exchange for him joining the Navy.
Through out these meetings Jeremiah would offer Sidney's release under the idea that he was doing so to enlist in the navy in exchange for the Totem. It was a simple exchange but Sidney made his own demand that he was brought in to the Captains ship along with his assistance in advancement. What Sidney didn't reveal is that he knew that Jeremiah was a Templar. It was only a few days after their final meeting that Sidney was out of prison and aboard the HMS Cornwall under the command of Captain Welch.
Directly after Sidney being brought on board the ship set out with fifteen other navel ships to escort 200 merchant ships to Spain that had been holding back from sailing due to the threat of french attack. On 27 June 1693 just outside Lagos, Portugal the fleet came under attack by nearly seventy french ships of the line. The battle raged on for nearly six hours. The battle would end in a defeat for the combined English-Dutch fleet, but not before the Cornwall would and her crew would show great valor in combat.
The Cornwall and the surviving military ships would finally break away from the french fleet and make their way to Spain where they repairs and would meet up with a second contingent of British ships bringing their numbers to over fifty ships. The now larger fleet would sail around to the Mediterranean Where six mile of the coast of Toulon They would get their chance at revenge. The Cornwall would lead the charge against the 22 french ship leaving the port. Once again the Cornwall as well as Sidney would prove their worth to the Royal Navy.
In 1696 Sidney was promoted from the rank of able seaman to Master's Mate as part of the deal he had made with Jeremiah back when he was released from prison. Jeremiah had other intentions as well. Sidney had proven himself time and time again as a strong and loyal sailor. The two had also grown close, at least as close as a Captain can become with someone of the lower ranks. Now as Master's Mate Jeremiah would have the ability to learn more of the man eventually bringing him in to the ranks of the Templar's.
it was also at this time that Annabelle and Sidney would begin to write each other now that she was old enough to do so. Annabelle had been a Ward of Charles who had been close with Sidney and knew of his closeness with a Templar now. All this time Charles had kept Annabelle and her father committed to the betrothal of Annabelle and Sidney. The coming years their letter would grow more and more frequent.
in 1997 Jeremiah would finally bring Sidney in to the fold as a Templar himself, giving him the ability to keep an ever closer eye on the totem and even gain some insight in to their plan. Though he would never be able to get the full details of the plan he was able to learn that they intended to use it to change the face of the world, how that would happen was far foggier. A mere Three years later Sidney was again promoted to Midshipman's Mate now even closer to his friend Jeremiah.
Everything would once again change for Sidney on the fifth of November, 1701. Jeremiah reveals that the Totem had been removed from the ship and was being sent south. They had finished protecting it and a time was coming for their plans to move forward tot he next step. The Cornwall had pulled in to port Brighton that day and the Totem was already gone. It was time for Sidney to finish his undercover mission with the Templar's and find out what his next step was. Sidney requested time to leave the ship that day and return home. Jeremiah of course granted his request. Instead of leaving for home that day though he would wait till night fall and return to sneak back on the ship and in to the captains quarters to finish the deal. Sidney as a gentleman faced the man. Sidney had grown close the Jeremiah over the years and felt as a gentleman the least he owed him the truth. Sidney explained the truth to the man, and just as Jeremiah reached for his pistol Sidney cut him down with his blade. Just as Jeremiah feel to the ground A young seamen enter the room, forcing Sidney's hand to take his life as well.
Sidney pulled the young sailor in to the room shooting him with the captains pistol and planting the blade he had killed the captain with on him. With the noise of the shot Sidney's time was limited and he rushed out the back window of the captains quarters diving down in to the open water. The crew would find the young seamen dead on the ground in front of the captain. The captains throat slit and a simple conclusion would be drawn. With a little luck the Templar's would see the same picture.
During his week long leave he had requested he would stop in Taunton where he would visit Annabelle for the first time in over three years. The two had grown quiet fond of each other, dare I say even fallen in love with each other. Annabelle Over joyed with Sidney's return begged they be married before he leaved. Though Sidney wished for the same he wouldn't dare put her at risk of being connected to him by marriage after his recent acts. Though Annabelle was saddened by the thought of waiting she agreed to wait till Sidney was done with his service before they married.
When Sidney returned to the HMS Cornwall the investigation in to the murder had gone exactly as was expected. Sidney would only spend two more months with the ship before the Templar's pulled strings and had him transferred to the HMS London where he would serve with three other Templar's in the Royal Navy, though none commanding the ship this time. He would take his lieutenants exam moving up yet another step before being transferred to the HMS Nightingale where he would finally be among fellow Assassins, in fact under the command of one Assassin by the name of Horatio Davis as his second lieutenant. Where they would serve in the Spanish theater including the English capture of Gibraltar before the HMS Nightingale would be sent of to Kingston, Jamaica. He was half a world away from home now spending his time hunting small time Spanish and french ships. Until a few months ago when the Nightingale was sent to Charles Town, South Carolina helping to defend against a Spanish-French attack on the colon
y shortly after he was promoted to first lieutenant of the ship. It is shortly after this tiem that our story really begins.
